Step by step installation:

1. Download the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 from the Microsoft homepage or get the latest version here:

http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/default.aspx

2. Check if you have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 on your computer. If not, download it also at:

http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/default.aspx

3. Make sure you know the name of your server. By default, it will be "Name of your computer\SQLEXPRESS".

4. Download the SQL Setup from Xpert-Design Software website:

Choose the file "XTInstSQLServer2005EN.exe" or click following link:

http://download.xpertdesign.de/XTInstSQLServer2005EN.exe

5. Run the setup. It should attach your database automatically.

Attention! If the SQL Server is not installed at: C:\Program File\Microsoft\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data, the automatic setup will fail. You will get follwing error message from Xpert-Timer:

Click o.k, finish the setup and start your Microsoft SQL Server Managment Studio:

1. Connect to your server

2. Right click on your databases and choose:

A new window opens, where you can choose the Destination for restore. Please type "XT". Then select "From device:" where your have to specify the locaction of the backup set.

When you click the button with the three dots on, a new window is going to open. Choose "File" as the backup media and click "Add" to add the backup location.
The .bak backup file is located in the folder you installed your Xpert-Timer in. The subfolders name is: "Datenbank", which is german for database.

Check the Restore box and then click on Options in the top left corner. Here you have to change the path at "Restore As" to the path where your server is located. The automated setup failed, because the path C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data didn't exist. Therefore you must your correct path here.

Click "OK". The database should be attached now.

Start XTAdmin and enter your server information there, to get the connection to the database. Choose "Connectionstring" and then the Wizard. Now enter the name of the SQL-Server and the name of the installed database and hit the button "Connect". If the connection was successful, click "Save".

In the main window of XTAdmin, you have several buttons available at the bottom.

Usually the database updates itself as soon as a new version is installed. If you happen to notice, that the patchlevel of the database is different to the one of the program, hit the button "Update DB structure".

Sometimes Xpert-Timer gets stuct while patching the database. Use the button "Set patchlevel" to set the patchlevel back to a lower number and try to update again.

Use "Switch from Access" if you tested the Xpert-Timer with an ACCESS database and you don't want to loose the date. You can import the files into an SQL database.

Set a server IP in order to keep track of the connection to the database. Xpert-Timer will then notice if the connection is lost and reconnect after it found the connection again.
